π Hi, I'm Xiaocan Li (ζζη¨)
I am a staff scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) working on the physics of magnetic reconnection, plasma turbulence, and energetic-particle acceleration. My research combines large-scale kinetic simulations, transport modeling, and high-performance computing to understand energetic particles in solar flares, heliospheric plasmas, and astrophysical systems.
-
Energetic-particle acceleration & transport in reconnection and turbulence
-
High-performance kinetic simulations (PIC, hybrid-PIC, MHD)
-
Development of advanced tools:
- stochastic-parker β stochastic solver for particle transport equations
- VPIC-Kokkos for large-scale GPU supercomputers
- HybridVPIC-K + transport frameworks for heliophysics & astrophysics
- Magnetic reconnection & plasma turbulence
- Particle acceleration across solar, heliospheric, and astrophysical environments
- Multi-scale modeling: PIC β hybrid β MHD β transport
- HPC on leadership-class machines (Frontier, Perlmutter, Aurora, β¦)
- Advanced diagnostics (turbulence properties, energetic-particle diagnostics)
-
stochastic-parker Stochastic Monte-Carlo solver for Parker / focused-transport equations.
-
GPATS (in progress) Next-generation energetic-particle transport framework (Kokkos + Cabana).
-
Reconnection & turbulence simulations Using VPIC-Kokkos, HybridVPIC-K, and MHD codes to study energy conversion and particle energization.
-
Solar flare & heliospheric modeling Particle acceleration in solar flares, heliospheric current sheets, and large-scale eruptions.
