Hello and welcome to my landing page - my name is Ramy Rashad.
As a kid, I was obsessed with airplanes and NASA's space shuttle program. I would go plane-spotting at local airports with my dad and in university I would have live feeds of NASA's mission coverage playing in the background while I studied. I somehow studied hard enough to become a professional aerospace and staff software engineer - a nerdy rocket scientist through and through! My doctoral research gave me the time I needed to go deep, in turn, gaining significant expertise in the areas of (i) numerical optimization and (ii) computational aerodynamics.
Through more than a decade of industry experience that has since followed, I have consistently focused on democratizing machine learning, numerical optimization, and traditional scientific computing. I am always looking for opportunities to push the boundaries, mostly by bridging the gap between cutting-edge academic research and industrially relevant applications.
I currently work for Pratt & Whitney Canada, in the the Toronto area. My work is currently focused on building out ML-driven design optimization frameworks for advanced propulsion systems, typically involving multidisciplinary physics-based modelling (CFD and FEA), model calibration, and controls optimization for embedded systems.
In my spare time, I enjoy Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, flying Cessnas, and jumping out of them! 🪂
Please feel free to connect with me anytime! 🚀
