Bridging the gap between Cloud Computing and HPC to enable computational science for all
From the mountains of Cali, Colombia to the tech hub of Munich, Germany, my journey has been anything but conventional. I started as a Certified Environmental Engineer (2013), driven by a passion for sustainability, and evolved into a Computer Science Ph.D. (2022) obsessed with distributed systems and high-performance computing.
Since 2015, I've been an active open source contributor and maintainer, working at the intersection of cloud-native technologies and scientific computing. Today at NVIDIA, I focus on enabling specialized hardwareβGPUs, fast networks, and acceleratorsβin Kubernetes environments, making cutting-edge compute accessible through containers.
π‘ My Mission: Enable scientists and researchers to run mathematical simulations and data analysis on cloud infrastructure with the same power and ease as traditional HPC systems.
As a maintainer of several kubernetes-sigs projects, I'm focused on:
- π― GPU Enablement in Kubernetes - Making specialized hardware first-class citizens in cloud-native workloads
- π Node Feature Discovery - Automatically detecting and advertising hardware capabilities
- π Job Queueing (Kueue) - Fair resource sharing for batch workloads and ML training
- π MPI Operator - Running distributed HPC applications on Kubernetes
- β‘ Fast Networks - Optimizing RDMA, InfiniBand, and high-speed networking for containerized workloads
languages:
- Go (primary)
- Python
- Shell/Bash
- C/C++
specializations:
- Kubernetes & Container Orchestration
- Distributed Systems & HPC
- GPU Computing & CUDA
- High-Speed Networking (RDMA, InfiniBand)
- CI/CD & Test Infrastructure
domains:
- Cloud-Native Computing
- Scientific Computing
- Machine Learning Infrastructure
- Systems Programming|
Production-Grade Container Scheduling and Management Core contributor to the world's leading container orchestration platform. |
Kubernetes-native Job Queueing Maintainer of the job queueing system for batch workloads. |
|
Node Feature Discovery for Kubernetes Maintainer - Automatic hardware capability detection. |
MPI Operator for Kubernetes Running distributed HPC applications on Kubernetes. |
Environmental Engineering taught me to think about systems holisticallyβunderstanding how components interact and impact the whole. Computer Science gave me the tools to build those systems at scale.
Since 2015, I've been contributing to open source because I believe that:
- π Accessibility matters - Powerful computing shouldn't be locked behind proprietary walls
- π€ Community drives innovation - The best solutions emerge from collaboration
- π¬ Science benefits everyone - Making HPC accessible democratizes research
I'm always excited to discuss:
- π― Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies
- π GPU computing and ML infrastructure
- π§ Contributing to open source projects
- π Bridging HPC and cloud computing
- π± Transitioning from other fields into tech
