Is there an appetite for JSON/Machine readable versions of skill trees?

Great work on this project, a fantastic idea :)

I'd like to integrate some of the skill trees into the training/induction system at the Artifactory but would need to work with machine readable versions of the trees. It looks like progress has already been made on this front for the 3D modelling/printing trees and I wanted to check in before writing similar versions for other trees.

My main concern is the associated tech debt, ie keeping the JSON version up to date when the PDF changes.

Thanks so much @FletcherAU ! Sounds like a great project idea. Yes, happy for you to go ahead and make these and add to the repository. There's not a good solution at this stage for the tech debt, and I'm happy to update things as I see them come through. I'm hoping to come to Perth some time next year, I'll have to call in for a visit!

Suggestion: figure out a way to use PlantUML so that code can auto-convert into a tree

If there's appetite I'd be happy to noodle on a GitHub action that would take machine readable skill trees and build/publish them to a GitHub pages site in SVG/PNG form when a PR is merged. Potentially also generating multilingual variants at the same time.

If the SVGs in the repo were created with https://schme16.github.io/MakerSkillTree-Generator/, they'll also have an embedded JSON version of their contents that could be used to extract YAML definitions.

@josephlewis42 , That's a great idea. It would definitely make the project more accessible to be able to translate easily between machine readable trees and Skill Trees made on the Skill Tree Generator. I'm aiming to have all the skill areas covered with Skill Tree Generator files to make it easier to remix skill areas and submit peer reviews. Am working on this slowly!

After a lot of fiddling, I have a CLI that can convert between YAML and SVG as well as create Keep A Changelog style diffs from two versions of the same tree: https://github.com/josephlewis42/skilltreetool

I also got the same thing compiled into WASM and deployed to GitHub pages: https://josephlewis42.github.io/skilltreetool/# if you just want to edit a few.

Wow @josephlewis42 , this is phenomenal work!! What a useful tool with a clean interface! This is amazing stuff and I deeply appreciate your hard work on this. This is a real game changer for converting between formats, and I love the changelog generator too! My only piece of feedback would be to add an author credit to yourself in the Instructions page, and link the web interface into your project Github page. I'll work on integrating this new tool into the Readme and Wiki. Thanks again!!
