Toggle to Binding EXIF Star Rating to Favorite

I have noticed that many users, myself included, treat the star rating feature as a proxy for favoriting (♡) assets across platforms since no standard XMP:Favorite. Adding stars takes a few extra steps as compared to just tapping the favorite icon.

When this toggle is enabled:

• Favoriting an asset will automatically assign it a 5-star rating
• Unfavoriting an asset will automatically remove the 5-star rating
• Instead of showing both the heart and the stars on the asset, only show the heart (for favorite)
  • Or, for all intents and purposes, simply treat 5-stars as an alias for favorite and only show the star icon.
• Manually assigning 5-stars will automatically treat the asset as favorite
• When filtering only for favorite assets, it will show all the assets with 5-star rating as well

TLDR: Favoriting an asset = automatic 5-star rating and vice versa

I'm unlikely to provide settings such a specific behaviour, but I won't why you don't use a "favourite" tag instead. It's in the metadata like the rating. You can do a dynamic album with that tag, if needed. And with the tagging quick action long press it's easy to tag too. Have you tried that way?

That said, whether it’s hearts, stars, or tags, I think it would be nice to have an intuitive and seamless way to preserve the "favorite" property in the metadata (already implemented via the ability to edit metadata) and have it displayed automatically in the app as "favorite". It doesn’t have to be as specific as my initial suggestion, it could be something more generic. For example, the ability to remap the behavior of the favorite (♡) icon:

• When I add an asset to favorites (i.e. press the ♡ icon), a “Favorite” tag gets added to the metadata and vice versa.
• Or, when I add/remove an asset from favorites, it adds/removes properties from the metadata.

The idea would be to link the ♡ icon directly to properties so that assets with that property are treated as favorites within the app. This would allow users who prefer metadata properties to configure it in a way that fits their workflow, while those who are happy with the current heart behavior could continue using it as-is.

That way this becomes your personal anything icon:

TLDR: Ability to choose the behavior of the favorite (♡) icon (e.g. linking it to metadata properties)

Would this be something within the scope of Aves?

This idea may better be implemented as "custom actions" with personalized names and icons, which then could be added in various places (the bottom navigation bar, quick actions, etc.) So that it's not specific to favourites, and it would allow all sorts of workflows.
