How can I add point labels to Volcano plots?

Hi, I have been trying to work within the base code to get it to label significant points in the volcano plot, but it doesn't seem to register labels= row.names(met) to add labels. It also doesn't respond to any of the above variables in the source code for volcano plots. Sorry, I am very new to R and this has been great otherwise, the point labels are important for interpretation of data.
